End of Term Activities – Fun Shack
Our recent visit to Fun Shack in Newcastle was an incredible success and provided a valuable opportunity for our pupils to develop key social and life skills in a fun, engaging environment. The setting offered a safe yet stimulating space where pupils could challenge themselves, build relationships, and grow in confidence.
Throughout the day, pupils worked on teamwork and communication, collaborating during activities and supporting one another as they explored the different play zones. Many pupils stepped outside of their comfort zones by interacting with peers they may not usually play with during school hours, helping to foster new friendships and social connections.
A particularly proud moment was seeing pupils demonstrate independence and self-confidence by ordering their own food and drinks. This gave them the chance to practice essential life skills such as making choices, speaking to unfamiliar adults, using appropriate manners, and managing money.
Additionally, the dynamic environment encouraged pupils to adapt to new situations, respond positively to changes, and regulate their emotions while engaging in high-energy play. Many even pushed themselves physically by attempting new activities they initially felt unsure about, celebrating their achievements with their peers.
Overall, the Fun Shack trip provided a highly rewarding experience that supported the development of social communication, resilience, adaptability, independence, and positive peer interaction—all while having a great time!
