Parent Mental Health Day 30th January 2026

Parent Mental Health Day (PMHD) was founded by the charity stem4 in 2022 and is held each year on 30th January. The day was created to raise awareness of the vital link between parents’ and carers’ mental health and the wellbeing of the whole family.

The day aimed to get parents and carers to take a moment to reflect on the balance they have in their lives, as well as how they balance looking after their family’s mental health and to take steps to make positive change and ‘balance out’.

Here at Parkside House school, we embraced and celebrated Parental Mental Health Day, with Miss Towse, Wellbeing lead, reaching out to all parents and carers. Sharing a handout explaining PMHD, along with an invitation to come along to our Backworth site, where we could access a safe space and enjoy refreshments whilst engaging in friendly reflective conversations and share a list of online services she had complied.

A mum to one of our students gave permission to quote a comment she said as she gave Miss Towse a playful fist pump

‘It was a great thing to reach out to the parents, and she hoped this could be held again’.

Miss Towse thanked her very much for her very helpful discussion, ideas and support and stated

‘Today was the first trial  and she would be looking to arrange more’.

PMHD aims to break the stigma surrounding parents mental health and starts a discussion on how parents are coping too.

stem4 is run by one of the country’s leading clinical psychologists, Dr. Nihara Krause, who also advises Parliament on mental health issues.
