15th June 2026

Environmental Week at Parkside House

During Environmental Week, pupils took part in an exciting hands-on project to improve and develop our outdoor learning spaces.

The week began with pupils working together to weed and tidy the outdoor area, taking pride in creating a clean and welcoming environment. They then visited local shops to purchase the resources needed for the project, including compost, sand and other materials, giving them valuable opportunities to practise budgeting, decision-making and community engagement skills.

Back at school, pupils worked collaboratively to prepare the wooden planters. They designed and built separators to create dedicated growing areas and carefully filled each section with the appropriate materials. The planters are now ready for planting a variety of fruits and vegetables, which pupils will nurture and eventually harvest.

We are also incredibly grateful to our local garden centre, who kindly donated strawberry plants to help our pupils get started. Their generosity has given the project an exciting boost, and pupils are already looking forward to caring for the plants and enjoying the fruits of their labour in the months ahead.

This exciting project will continue throughout the year, with the produce being harvested and used in cookery lessons. Pupils are looking forward to seeing their hard work grow from seed to plate, developing their understanding of sustainability, healthy eating and where food comes from.

Environmental Week provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to build practical skills, work as a team and make a positive contribution to the school environment while creating a lasting resource for future learning. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by everyone involved has been wonderful to see, and we can’t wait to watch the garden flourish.
