Training Kitchen and Hair & Beauty Salon @ Ashington

The new teaching kitchen on the Ashington site is now in full swing and our pupils are loving it. The kitchen is fitted with all the latest appliances and equipment such as induction hobs and ovens, as well as everything a budding chef could wish for!

The kitchen provides a realistic learning environment where we can practice cooking and baking skills in a professional setting. Our young people are working towards a qualification that could be, for some, a stepping stone into the industry. As well as building on their cooking and baking skills, pupils are learning how to work as part of a team, follow instructions and push their creative boundaries. The kitchen lends itself nicely to Maths and English too by following recipe cards and weighing/measuring ingredients.

The pupils are always very proud of their work, so much so that the food rarely get a chance to make it home!

The Hairdressing salon on the Ashington site is now fully operational with all the latest tools and products. We are equipped with Dyson appliances and Osmo products which pupils are very much embracing and is a true reflection of industry expectations.

Pupils have the opportunity to practice on each other or on the model heads, this creates a realistic learning environment and gives pupils a taste for the industry. So many soft skills are also practiced in the salon such as communication, resilience and respect which is a privilege to observe.

We also have a mini nail bar where we practice nail art and application techniques. This teaches our pupils to be creatively independent and build an eye for precision.

The salon is also being utilised by pupils who wish to have some quiet/creative time over break times.

As we go from strength to strength, new styling techniques including vintage styling and bridal will be a focus for our lessons.
