Children’s Mental Health Week @ Ashington

Ashington have been celebrating Children’s Mental Health this week. Our progress coach Nicola is usually very colourful and bubbly, and she nominated herself to wear dark dull clothes all week, to show the effect colour has on her Mental Health and wellbeing. Staff and learners have been sponsoring her to raise money for Place2be charity. This year’s theme for Children’s Mental Health is Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.

Nicola has given a statement of the impact this has had on her throughout the week.

‘I am very surprised by how this has had a negative effect on my mood. I don’t feel myself at all and have had a bad head at the end of each day, with all the feelings of sadness and grief! Where has the colour gone?! 🙁

Quite a few learners have commented to say I look ‘boring’, that it ‘doesn’t look right’ and they ‘can’t cope with this all week!’ Oops – sorry everyone!’

Learners have participated in wellness activities throughout the week, and Wednesday 5th February staff and learners wore PJ’s or something yellow and green.
