Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and climbing frame @ Backworth

These have had a hugely positive impact on our pupils since being installed. These new facilities have transformed break and lunchtime activities, movement breaks, and the overall school environment.

The MUGA has given students a safe, all-weather space to enjoy a wide range of sports, including football and basketball. It has encouraged more pupils to be active, join in team games, and develop their confidence and cooperation skills. Teachers have noticed improved regulation times and more positive attitudes towards physical activity.

The new climbing frame has been especially popular with younger pupils, helping them develop balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills through play. It has also encouraged teamwork and turn-taking, as pupils support and cheer each other on. The importance of ‘play’ for the students is critical to development and understanding how to be creative.

Beyond physical benefits, both the MUGA and climbing frame have contributed to improved wellbeing and social interaction across the school. Pupils are more active, happier, and show greater respect for shared spaces. The sense of excitement and pride around these new facilities has created a more positive, inclusive school atmosphere.

Overall, the new MUGA and climbing frame have enriched our school community — promoting health, teamwork, and enjoyment for all our pupils
